Bike Registry Gloucestershire Constabulary

Help and information

This site is run by Gloucestershire Constabulary, in order to help cyclists protect their bikes and report thefts quickly, to retain personal belongings and bring thieves to justice.

Below are answers to the most common questions.

How does it work?

Members of the public register their bikes by entering details such as the frame number, brand, model alongside a photo if possible. So if a bike is later stolen, the owner can access their bike file and assign an online report, which is sent straight to the investigating officers. The officers update the case status as the investigation progresses, and the owner can check the latest status on their account at any time.

Who can use the site?

Anyone can register an account and add a bike, however the police side of the site is restricted to authorised officers, who are enrolled by an administrator to case.

What information is needed to register a bike?

The frame number is the most important detail because it uniquely identifies the bicycle, usually stamped on the underside of the bottom bracket (where the pedals attach) or near the rear wheel. Other useful details include the brand, model, colour, wheel size and a clear photograph, this allows more details for the officers enabling faster identification of your bike.

What happens after I report a theft?

The report is reviewed by officers and the status is updated as the case progresses. Possible statuses include Reported, Under Investigation, Recovered and Closed. Additionally, Police Officers can also leave notes that the owner can see on their status page.

Is my data safe?

To protect your data: Passwords are protected with industry-standard hashing, account information is only visible to the registered user and to police officers handling theft cases, image uploads are validated to prevent malicious files and the site uses prepared database queries to defend against SQL injection.

Why does the site ask for so much detail about my bike?

The more identifying information police have, the better the chances of recovering your bike if it is found, as a frame number alone is enough in many cases; but a photograph and a full description make identification much faster.

Can I report someone else's bike?

No. You can only file theft reports for bikes registered to your own account. This stops fraudulent or malicious reports.

I have forgotten my password
